Like it or not, leggings are here to stay....

It seems like there is a strong love/hate relationship out there for leggings. Whichever side of the spectrum you were on, they did seem like a passing fad. But it seems like wearing leggings is not going away anytime soon. I received the above in an email from Neiman Marcus this morning and I thought it was odd that they called it a "leggings trend." Leggings were popular in the 80s and made their big comeback in the fall of '06. That's THREE years ago - to me, that seems like more than a fad...that seems like leggings are slowly becoming a staple. One thing that does seem to be changing is how leggings are worn and accessorized. I was just reading this month's issue of Glamour and there was a Q&A with Rachel Zoe that said,

Q Are leggings still in style? Any tips on how to make a basic pair sophisticated?

A Not only are they in style, but at the fall shows, I think 90 percent of the designers sent them down the runway. One thing I'd stay away from is wearing a short fitted top with leggings. You should opt for something that at least covers your bum. Try layering a long knit tee under a baggier, menswear-style jacket. (9/09, pg. 125)

Me? I'm on the side of "Yay for leggings!" They are so comfy and add extended life to some of my summer items when I start layering with them in the fall. I have a bit of a booty so I have always been on the "at least covers your bum" styling train. And I'm excited to get a pair with zippers for this season. I want zippers on everything...
