Wear and Tell

Here's a fun game: The other night I went out and wore a cowboy belt that belonged to my dad when he was 5-years-old. It has an awesome big silver buckle on the front and his name branded into the back. Of course, this was a piece that had to be explained. So after I finished telling a group a friends the story behind the belt, my friend said, "Ok, now all of you have to tell us one interesting thing about your outfit." And everybody had something interesting to say. One girl was wearing her very favorite bracelet, another was wearing her roommate's (who was also at this party) shirt, one was wearing a shirt that she bought out of desperation at a ghetto/hoochie store on 34th St. in NYC and the friend that started the game of "wear and tell" was wearing shoes that he considers his 'frames' - like they complete the outfit. I never really thought about it before but most of us have stories behind our clothes, especially when we are "going out." There is a reason we choose to wear what we wear and it is usually something we think of consciously when picking out an outfit but never end up sharing. Our style choices tell a story of who we are and where we've been. So the next time you are out with a group of people, play a little "Wear and Tell." You never know what interesting stories may come out...

that sounds like a fascinating thing to do! I'll try it out the next time my friends and I hang out. (:
